Diamante felt the fangs driving inward into his flesh and fur. The blood that colored his neck shone in the sun, sticking together and matting around as it slowly dried. After his words emitted from his mouth, he felt the tense grip finally loosen, and he could breathe again, but barely. After he heard the wolf ask him what he should get in return, his eyes widened.
"Just the victory..." he breathed. "...Nothing more."

"Fine." Haunt growled, releasing Diamante's neck completely. The male spat out clumps of fur, as his tongue gathered up the small droplets of blood. "Just remember this: you owe your life to me. Don't forget it." Haunt muttered scornfully, peeling back his lips in a snarl. The wolf then turned away, padding stiffly away from Diamante. Haunt stretched his jaws in a yawn, flexing the sore muscles along his mandibal. A luxurious body stretch followed this, sending renewed energy into Haunt's tired limbs. Fiercely shaking his head to correct his matted fur and shed a light layer of sand, Haunt started forward once more. The wolf, however, was no longer heading deeper into the Hot lands. Instead he adjusted his coarse, his gaze latched onto the tree-line in the distance. Shade. Water. Food. Rest. Haunt's head was still pounding from the fight's excitment, sending quivers down his spine. Shaking it off, the male focused solely on his journey. If he kept at it, he would be able to reach shelter before nightfall.

The fangs of Haunt withdrew themselves from Diamante's torn neck in a painful way, making him want to yelp. The fight seemed like a blur. He lay still as Haunt walked away, realizing that if he didn't get out of this wretched desert, his thick fur was going to burn him to death beforehand. He closed his eyes, feeling like he could just lay here and die. The heat was too intense here... and it wasn't right... Soon the blackness engulfed him as he became unconcious.
As his weary eyes opened, it was still dark around him. But as his vision cleared, he soon realized that it was night. It wasn't as hot as the daytime was. He wondered how long he had been asleep, but he soon shook off the question and tried to stand up. His long rest had made his muscles cramp up, and his leg was extremely sore. He fell to the dusty ground once, and then tried to rise again. When he was finally on his weary feet, he started limping away in the same direction Haunt went, only in a different angle. He needed to find a peaceful spot to heal his aching wounds.
