Athena glanced around her surroundings and sighed, her annoyance and confusion almost palatable. The young wolfess had been traveling for several weeks, and just now endedup wandering into this large forest. There seemed to be some sort of fog insinuating itself in the trees, dampening everything - including the half-wolves' eyesight.
Having never left the safety of the town before, the mutt was thouroughly lost. Half a wolf and half a dog, the mostly white, black dappled female was on a mission, of sorts. She yearned for adventure. For something exciting; something new, besides the same old same old. Maybe she'd meet someone...maybe, she privately hoped, even meet her father. The only information she had about him was his name; Craw. And even that might not be his real name -- wolves lied, so her mother and the rest of her kin had taught her. Never trust a wolf. But she was half wolf - did the same go for her, as well? Or was the dog in her more persistant? It was hard to tell; and, at times like this, Athena knew she needed to be more alert, not pondering questions about her lineage.

He shifted his eyes from the foggy trees to a deep ravine below him. What now? He never knew what he was doing anymore. Ever since he lost his memory long ago, he didn't know where to go or what to do. He lived without a purpose, it seemed. But he longed for one.
He slowly walked down the ravine to reach a place in the forest where the fog was even more thick. He shifted his ears back, nostrils flaring to catch scent of any other dog or wolf that might be wandering around. As the wind started blowing, something caught his scent. It was, perhaps, a dog... or a wolf? He couldn't quite tell. He lifted his head to howl a piercing song into the air, one that was friendly and inviting, and unclaiming.

Athena listened as she heard a wolf howl in the distance. It sounded like a male's howl, though she couldn't be sure. It didn't sound to far away, whatever - and whoever - it was. She couldn't smell anyone - the wind was blowing away from her, probably carrying her own scent to whoever had howled.
Pausing a moment, the wolf-dog mix lifted her head and howled back, cautiously. The owl she had heard had been freindly, a little lonely, even, perhaps, but that didn't necessarily mean that the wolf who had howled was really alone -- or freindly. Still, it would have been rude to turn down such an invite, and so the she-wolf answered in kind. [/center]

Hearing the reply, Chaos grew even more attentive. The reply wasn't a pure wolf howl, this he was sure of. These days it was so hard to know who you could trust and who you couldn't. But nevertheless, his feet started to carry him deeper into the forest where the noise had come. When he smelled the air now, he could definitely tell it was a female. And he smelled the dog in her blood. As he passed tree after tree covered in the foggy blanket, he finally spotted her head, and then the rest of the fog lifted away from her, wisping across until he had full view.
His ears shifted back and forth, not knowing what he should do. Dogs were despised by many a wolf, and rarely there would be that one wolf in love with a dog. But what about wolves with dog ancestry? Were they to choose how to live, or were wolves supposed to hate them just as much?
"Hello..." Chaos said, unsure of how to act. "Are you lost?"

Athena jumped, turning slightly so as to get a better look at this new wolf she had howled with. "I am. Well, I don't really have any destination in mind, so I suppose I'm just looking for a pack.", she answered, dark blue eyes cautious and curious. She had never seen a real, full-bred wolf before! Her mother said that she'd always looked more like her father than her siblings of the same litter. Athena, currently, was still internally debating whether this was a good thing or not. Many of the dogs in the abandoned city had looked down on her siblings and she for being half-wolf, and their mother for mating with a wolf at all. They were even less recepting when they learned Athena planned to go and try to find a wolf pack to join; why would anyone sane do something as stupid and unlikely to succeed as that?

Chaos closed his eyes and smiled, still a good distance away from her. "You and I both." His soft eyes opened again. Curious, he asked the question. "Tell me... why do you smell like a wolf and a dog?" He blinked. The wind blew his thick fur, and his ears went back again, hoping that his question wouldn't cause any corruption or riot. After thinking for a moment, he bowed his head. "Also, pardon my manners... what is your name, might I ask?"

"I'm Athena.", she answered, voice not unpleased. The wolf was nice, polite - and looked familiar. Hmm. Food for thought.
She paused a moment before answering his question about her lineage. It was not a very touchy subject for her - she knew the dogs of her city and rag-tag pack had a certain amount of...distaste for the wolves, and she knew the same was probably true visca versa. Perhaps the same held true for her similarily lost companion? But, ah, no, she realized, as the wind now blew in her face, ruffling her black and white fur. This male smelled completely like a wolf.
"I'm half dog, half wolf.", she answered, deciding to be straightforward about it. Sure, someone with her ancestory was probably rare, but that didn't mean she should hide it.

Chaos was taken aback. "Really?" he was amazed. "I've never seen anyone like you. It's a new thing for me." He sat down, not taking his eyes off of her. "My name is Chaos. I am, as you may have noiced, a full bred wolf. But I'm not rash like some of them are about dogs and half-breeds, despite my name. Haha...I can't say much for myself... I lost my memory not that long ago, and I can't remember anything." He sighed, thinking as hard as he could. "The only thing I have in my memory is the face of some wolf, or dog maybe? But she's so white. Like snow..." He let his words drift away into the fog.

Athena smiled, feeling a kinship with the amnesiac wolf. He seemed to be genuinly nice, and not at all snobbish like a good portion of the dogs she knew were when she told them about her half-and-half heritage.
"Well, Chaos, I don't know any pure white wolves. My mom's almost totally brown, with a few black splotches on her - I look more like my dad, thankfully.", the half-breed grinned.
She would worry about how 'other wolves' were about half-breeds like herself when she met some and the problem came up. It was odd, but she hadn't seen another wolf - or dog, or anything - since she'd broached the outside of the Western Forest. It was a pretty creepy place, but it held a sense of beauty as well.

"Sometimes I wonder if it was my mom," he replied. "But I don't know. I don't think I ever will."
He looked around, wondering if she needed help escaping the dark forest. It was a danger, and he knew it. "Do you want me to help you find your way out of here?" he asked. "Where do you usually stay?"

"I usually stay in that old town, with the other dogs and my brothers and sisters and mom, and the rest of the pack.", she said, then revealed why she was really out in the Forest.
"I don't want to go back there, though - that's the whole reason I left. I want to find...something. Adventure. A pack to join. Maybe even my dad.", Athena revealed, wondering if they would find their respective parents. Probably not, more than likely. Wolves were known - at least, in her pack - to be notoriously fleet-footed, and careless about their pups, when they had any. (This veiw was skewed, of course, by Athena and the rest of her litter-mates' father being a wolf who vanished the day after mating with her mother, for unknown reasons.)
"And help would be nice.", she added, looking around. The black-and-white she-wolf was lost, and vulnerable because of that, and because she'd led a relatively easy life, when one compared it to a wolves, she supposed. Athena was suddenly thankful Chaos had found her before someone - or something - a little less helpful had. She'd heard whispers and rumours of gaint bears that lived in these woods, and some kind of large cat that lived in and around the mountains, though she'd seen neithe rhide nor hair of either animal.

"Hmm." Chaos nodded. "Well, you aren't going to find anyone in here. We need to get out of here, and go somewhere a little safer. Somewhere that creatures want to be. Any ideas?"
He got up, striding over to her and looking onward. "My best guess would be...the beach. Everyone wants to be there. Everyone usually pays their own mind to things. It would be easy to find things out, probably." He looked at her straight in the eyes. "What do you say?"

"The beach...", Athena said, quietly, to herself, debating over the pros and cons of going to such a place. Like every other places outside of their city, there were rumours and a general aura of distrust affiliated with the general area.
"That sounds nice.", the half-breed said, at length, smiling at Chaos. "Which way is it?"

"Haha..." Chaos laughed. "Good question." He glanced around, smelling the air. The beach normally gave off a smell of water, gulls, and sand. Water plants also made it a great give away. When he caught the scent of sand, he started running after it. "Follow me!" he exclaimed. He flew through the forest, following the higher ground levels. He slowed his pace, looking back to Athena.

Athena caught up in a matter of second, sniffing the air, testing it gingerly with her nose. "What's that smell?", she asked, looking confused. Her nose wrinkled at the unfamiliar smell, though it wasn't particualrily unpleasant. It was getting stronger as the duo trotted along.
