They walked forward a couple of feet, where the incescent fog finally decided to lift itself. There, in front of them, was a river. I sparkled and trickled gracefully downstream, and when Chaos lowered his head to it, he could feel the icy steam rising off of it. He licked it quickly, to taste it, and it was fresh and ice cold. He could tast the leftover mountain air in it. It was some of the best water he had ever had.
He gazed at Athena, showing her just in his eyes how good the water actually tasted. I gave them new hope for the new things they might be able to accomplish.
"I know where we have to go now! We just have to follow this and it will lead us to the alpines!" He was glad he had Athena with him. She was good company. He stretched himself out, glad that they had made it out of the forest without a scratch. "I am starving!" He said, and a fish jumped out of the water and back in.

Athena smiled, nodding in agreement as she realized that she was hungry as well, just as the fish jumped out of the river - a brief silver flash in the air before it plopped into the river again.
"What are the Alpines?", she asked, tail wagging slightly as she pawed at the fish in the stream, dividing her eyes between the fish in the river and the wolf a few paces away from her. She had never traveled outside of the city - it awed her that the world was so big -- and she had only seen a portion of it, yet! And not one scenting of a pack, either. Are there any around? I don;t see why there wouldn't be...she wondered. Unless something happend to them...

Chaos's tongue lolled out as he longed to tear into a fresh fish. They weren't as messy as deer and elk, but they were nearly just as good. He loved their fleshiness and the way they filled him up quicker than his normal red meats.
"I think if we follow this downstream, we will reach the bottom of the alpines. From there, we can climb it and look over the beach."
As his words stopped, he started plunging into the water, even though it made his muscles ache from how chilled it was. He stood still, until the ripples finally stopped, and he caught a glimpse of a huge trout that was swimming gracefully underneath him. He didn't take his eyes off of it. He didn't even move as it started nipping at his legs. But when it got right underneath his head, he dived for it. With a flash of silver fangs, the water splashed up and his head went under. It stayed under for a few seconds, and then he brought it back up. His teeth sank into the water creature, and he shook it back and forth a couple times. Prancing out of the water, he threw it on the ground. "Do you want it? You need to keep your strength up."

Athena was silent for a moment, awed. She could never do that! Where had Chaos learned that? Probably from pure experience, she knew, or his father.
"Thank you.", the half-breed managed to say, before she started in viciosly on the fish, ripping it apart and snarling. In the city, it was every dog for herself, and Athena had had to learn quickly to stay alive.

Chaos grinned, and then lyed down at the riverside. He wasn't too hungry... it had only been about a day since his last meal. He could wait a few more days, if he had too. Or he could simply wait until another time when they weren't on the move. He layed his head on the arms and sighed, watching Athena tear into the fish. Then a tiny movement caught his eye, and he was up and moving again. Quickly, he snatched the little mouse up and ate it quickly, in one gulp. He wondered if Athena was getting tired yet.
"Do you wish to keep moving after a quick rest?" he asked.

Athena finished her fish, standing up and stretching as she buried the bones after gnawing on them a while longer.
"I'd rather continue.", she answered, looking around. Even after they were out of those foggy woods, she still got the creeps. Maybe it was because this was unknown territory - they could be a packs' land and not even know it!
(As the groups of dogs in the city had never stayed in one place to long, they had also never had scent markings for territories, so she wouldn't know anything about that, nor what one meant if she came across it.)

Chaos nodded. "Very well. Let's go." As they walked along the river, he kept his nose up and kept alert for any scent or territory marks. He smelled a very faint scent coming from up ahead, but he couldn't be sure if it was a marker or not until they were a bit closer. Walking next to the steady stream gave him a sudden flashback... There he was, a young pup with fuzzy fur and stumbling pawsteps. His fur was too long and thick for his body, but he didn't care. He was chasing a colorful butterfly. He wanted to catch it, more than anything. And as it landed on a flower near the stream, he crouched down. Suddenly he pounced and tried to pin it, but he missed. Little did he know, he had greatly misjudged his leap and was sent flying into the river. He looked below him and there was a rock, and BAM! He quickly returned to reality, and shook his aching head, stopping on the path to rest for a moment.

"Are you alright?", Athena asked, head tilting to the side in concern. Her new-found freind looked as if he'd just seen a ghost.
She looked at the water, where Chaos had been staring at. She saw nothing that pipiqued her interest. Just a few small fish flitting by. A medium-sized rock that look like it had a crack in it from something. She wondered what it could be.
How odd.

Chaos stood open-mouthed as he stared into the sparkling water. He slowly turned his head to look in her direction, but his eyes couldn't focus for some reason. He shook his head and dropped it to stare at the ground. Seeing movement was starting to make him sick. "It's just..." he started. He lifted a paw and brushed it down his face. "I remember a vague memory from my past. And sometimes I wonder if it has anything to o with why I can remember anything anymore." He sighed with discontentment. "Nevermind. Let's keep moving," he said a couple moments later. He walked swiftly in the direction once again.

"Oh."
Athena paused for a moment, veiwing the rock with a renewed interest. Hmm. That crack in the rock...She shook her head. No, it was much to much a coincidence. But, yet, she still wondered about it.
Not that the half-wolf was going to press Chaos about it. It was obviously a sore subject for the older wolf, and she knew well enough to leave well enough alone. Letting a sleeping snake lay., she thought, remembering the old saying her mother used to say when Athena got to inquisitive about something or other.
Usually her father.

About an hour later, Chaos stopped, turning to Athena. "Do you care if I kill a fish to eat really quick? I mean... I can go a while without food. But this river is tempting me too much..." He watched the sparkling salmon swim around. Their soft, pink, fleshy bodies caused him to lick his lips. And drool a bit.

She noticed he looked rather hungry, and the she-wolf nodded, smiling lightly. She was used to hunger - food was scarce in the city, and if you didn't eat fast enough, or weren't strong enough, the food got taken from you and snapped up into the mouth a bigger, stronger or smatrter dog.
The mutt wondered when it was the male had eaten last. Probably a while - Chaos looked as if he were going to jump into the river and just become a fish.

Without returnng a word, all Chaos did was smile. He stalked to the edge of the river, looked over, and spotted several fish swimming in a pool of water. His eyes focused on one particular one, and his claws dug into the earth. With one swift leap, his fangs opened and collapsed on the fish, who was still flapping away. He quickly got back up on land, throwing the fish down and tearing it apart, first eating any eggs that were inside. He ripped the white translucent flesh away from the bones and quickly gulped it down. After a few seconds went by, the fish was gone, all except for the head, which he quickly buried into the soft clay ground.
When he turned back around to face Athena, he noticed something that he never saw before; a thick line of spruce trees leading up the alpine mountain hill. "Look!" he told Athena, "It's right over there. We're almost to the beach!"
((OOC: if you want ot start the next thread in the Apline Mountains, I don't mind.))
