The brisk wind whistled softly through the sparse trees and briefly tousled Dezari's snow encrusted fur. She was beginning to rethink her impulsive decision to leave her pack further up the alpines. It was difficult to keep warm with just herself as company. She desperately missed her siblings toasty fur and hot tongues. Shrugging off her worries, Dezari bounded down the slope hopping along the frozen shrubs. She slid to stop, throwing up a snowy spray. She had reached a ledge that looked out over much off the land below. In the distance, a river flowed lazily past the lower foothills. Her tongue lolled out involuntarily as she realized how long it had been since she'd had a anything in her stomach. Making up her mind swiftly, she backed off the ledge and scampered around to find a way to traverse down the treacherous slope. As she eagerly kept her eyes fastened on the awaiting river, her mind wandered back to the reason she had left her much-loved pack. Insistingly, her father had told her it was time she found a mate, but she wasn't interested in any of the males that made up her pack. Nothing to do but to seek out a mate that would accept her half-wolf heritage.

Cher was on of the wolves that belonged to the Alpine Highland Pack, but nevertheless, she was out on the prowl alone. She was getting tired of living a monotonous life. It was time to put a spark of fire in her life and go out on her own. She wanted a family by now. To find a mate and have pups of her own was a dream for her. As she climbed the rocky slopes of the hill, she heard someone else's claws clicking on the stone ground. Her head twisted around, and then realized that the sound was coming from above her. She lifted her head up and slowly started to climb up the rest of the hill. When she approached the top, there saw the wolfdog.

Thorn sniffed the air, and his tail thumped slightly with excitement. Finally, there was someone around who wasn't a male walking into his pack lands.
Striding out onto a rock, the young, mate-less Alpha Male gazed down at his territory, trying to assess where the female was. The dappled pure-bred wolf took another deep scenting in, and found, to his suprise, that there seemed to be two females on his land.
A grin overcame the young adult. This will be fun..., he thought, howling a greeting to the ladies.
(In case nobody could tell, he's quite the ladies-man...or fancies himself as one.)

Cher's ears twisted back, and she looked into the direction where the howl had come from. Yes, it was the alpha of her pack. But despite her belonging in the pack, she had never actually seen him before. His howl was rarely beautiful and Cher liked the idea of meeting him. Without giving a warning to the wolfdog, she howled in reply to him, a cute and shewolf-ish reply.

Dezari halted her rambunctious bouncing down the slope and flicked her ears in the direction of the howl. The howl rose up into the air, rising and falling in a greeting. An answering call came from up ahead, and Dezari realized she finally ran into some other wolves, and ones that she didn't know. Loping toward the first call, she lifted her head slightly and called back with her own throaty howl. Excitement coursed through her body at the prospect of meeting others. Quickly, her legs eating up the short distance between her and the hewolf, she approached the wolf and wagged her tail.

Thorn howled back a greeting to both, and wagged his tail more as he heard how close they were. One, of course, was Cher - one of the few wolves in his small pack that was near his age. Most were older, and male.
The multi-colored wolf barked a greeting to Dezari as she came upon his lounging spot. The view, he noted with inner pride, was spectacular -- one of the reasons he came there so often. "Hello.", he said, warmly, smiling.
She was a cutie! Not totally a purebred though, he noted, with some dissappointment. Ah, well - she was still smokin'. And nice, he noticed. She'd come right up to him, not hiding and shying about like other loners' he'd met. She didn't smell like a loner, either - she smelled like other wolves, though faintly. Perhaps she had left her pack?, he hoped.

Cher watched as Dezari bounded off to greet Thorn, and inside her flamed a spark of jealousy. The started skipping gracefully behind her, and when she came a few yards away from him, she wagged her tail and walked in a circle. Notice me! she thought. Getting the alpha of her pack to be her mate would be an honor, and not only that... he was adorable, and strong! He was the ideal hewolf. She whined with her ears back, and realized that he seemed interested in Dezari. She paced back and forth, not wanting to get in the middle.

Dezari bowed to the ground pressing her muzzle into the fluffy snow as her rear legs wiggled back in forth in a playful gesture. The snow tickled her nose, and she sneezed softly sending up puffs of the cloud-colored substance. Her eyes traveled toward Cher as she happily watched the wolf's agitated approach. She couldn't understand why the shewolf seemed so tense. Dezari, herself, was ecstatic about finding some companions. She hoped they could travel together. Whuffing at the shewolf, she tried to show her reassurance. Turning back to Thorn, her tail thumping rhythmically against the ground, she heard him speak a greeting. She scooted up closer to him and rested back on her haunches. "Hi!" she replied happily, "I'm Dezari, what name do you hold?" She tilted her head to include Cher in the conversation.

"I'm called Thorn.", he introduced himself, smiling slightly at the she-wolf's playful behaviour. He nodded to Cher, smiling at her as well. "Hi, Cher. I thought you were hunting?", he asked, momentarily distracted from the new girl. The pack, after all, came before the cutie. "Do you need some help?", he offered. There was no-one else around to help them with the hunting right then, of the pack - most were by the caves they called home, or off playing.
He turned back to Dezari, not wanting to be rude. "You want to hunt with me and Cher, Dez?", he offered to the other she-wolf, his own tail wagging. An afternoon hunting - giving him a chance at showing off - with two beautiful she-wolves.

Dezari's stomach sent up a loud cry. It had been awhile since she'd eaten anything. Twitching her tail in excitement, she replied, "Sure, that would be really helpful. I'm a fairly mediocre hunter by myself. I do better when I can coordinate with another wolf." She could tell Thorn was posturing just a bit, and she loved every minute of it. Cher was licking out of his paw too. She didn't want to get in the other shewolf's way, but she wasn't going to give up a chance of showing herself off to the male. Half-breeds were just as good as full, and she had to start somewhere. Pulling herself up a little higher, she shook to ruffle her fur. "Cher, you're coming too, right?" The other shewolf seemed a little tentative, but Dezari wished that she would come as well. A little more company never hurt.

Cher rolled her eyes as she could clearly see where this was going. Thorn was adorable, but unfortunatly luck wasn't going her way it seemed. It was obvious that he like the outgoing type, and she didn't seem to fall into that category. Her ears twitched back, in irritation. Them bagging her to go was only making things harder. Her mouth twisted into a forced smile, with a hint of sarcasim hidden in it. Young alphas... "No thank you, Thorn, I don't need help. I'm not hungry. Besides, three is a crowd. I've already caught a rabbit today, anyway." Her tail flicked back and forth. Even though she really wanted to walk away at this moment, she didn't. Leaving a conversation before the alpha might be mutiny.

Disappointed that the shewolf didn't seem to like her, Dezari's tail sagged to the ground. The lines of her body gravitated downward, like something was pushing her down. She hadn't meant to make Cher feel unwanted. Dezari wasn't accustomed to fighting over males. Her father's pack didn't have that many hewolves and most shunned her half-wolf heritage. She and her two half-wolf brothers were normally looked down upon by the other pack members. Their condescending attitudes had forced her father to talk his sons and daughter into leaving. He had masked it under the pretension of their being old enough to find mates and make packs of their own. It was true, but that didn't make it hurt any less. Shaking off her misgivings about the other shewolf's behavior, she tilted her head toward Thorn and waited for his reaction.

Cher somewhat felt bad for giving such a guilt trip to Thorn and Dezari. Coming back to reality, she sighed and sat down, looking the other way so hopefully no one would ask her anymore questions. She didn't want a male that had a hard time choosing between two females. She wanted one that saw her as the most beautiful in a crowd of wolves, even if she actually wasn't. Even if finding him would be a hard task, she was up for the challenge.

Thorn smiled, tail wagging a little less as he sensed tension and confusion, but then harder as it worked itself out without having to intervine.
"Well, then.", he said, brisquely. Cher was a good she-wolf to have on your side, but not what he was looking for in a mate. She'd do much better with one of the shyer male wolves. Maybe a Beta, or Omega.
"Let's get going, shall we, Dez? I know this great deer spot, down by the falls..."

Squirming with barely contained excitement, Dezari whuffed her agreement and sidled up to his side. She hadn't been to the falls, since her father's small pack didn't want to intrude upon Thorn's territory. Yes, she had heard of Thorn previously, but had never encountered him before. She knew her enthusiasm was evident in the very way her body moved, but she couldn't stop herself from being so energetic. Her eyes traveled over to Cher for a split second, and she faltered in her step. The other shewolf had sank to the ivory coated ground with a slightly apathetic look on her face. Knowing the Cher probably wasn't happy about the turn of events, Dezari twitched her ears and gave her tail a flick in a friendly gesture. She didn't want to alienate her. With a last flourish, she shifted back to Thorn and said, "I'm famished! Food's been a little scarce for me, and deer sounds great."
