"Great.", grinned Thorn, taking off at a slow trot towards the woods, smiling at Cher as he passed, showing he didn't think anything odd of her.
"Hey, Cher, tell the rest of the pack that I'll be bringing back some deer, probably, for me, would you?", the Alpha asked, even as the tip of his tail flashed between the bushes as it followed the rest of his sturdy body.

Bounding after Thorn, Dezari turned her muzzle to the wind. A slight breeze was coming in their direction, skimming over the towering mountains and picking up speed as it swirled between the evergreens and spruces. Her nose twitched, but she couldn't detect anything yet. They must still be a fair distance away. As she trotted along beside the handsome hewolf her eyes traversed over the scenery. The sun was up just high enough to throw a glare off the fallen snow. Clumps hung to high branches and icicles coated many of the needles. The land at first appeared barren, but with a trained eye one could sense the almost ethereal beauty of the craggy, snow-enshrouded terrain. Dezari sucked in the heady pine scent, but caught her breath as her eyes settled on Thorn. He really was an attractive wolf. Gazing at his dark colored fur with it's patches of greyish white, she exhaled slowly through her teeth. Her body trembled, so she scooted up and bumped him with her nose in a casual gesture. "How much farther?" she asked with a lowered voice in case it was closer than she thought.

Cher watched the happy couple slinked away, and a sigh escaped her lips. Perhaps an alpha mate wasn't what she needed. A much more quiet and mysterious wolf was in order for her. And with this final thought, she ran off to find something else to interest her apsiration.

Thorn grinned, slightly, a small grin. He didn't want to seem desperate, after all. He was an alpha, not a flimsy male loner.
"Not much farther.", he answered, his tail not wagging nearly as hard as his heart was beating. He slowed down as they neared the clearing, his own flank brushing against the redish flank of his crush.

Dezari raised her nose to the wind again, and this time she caught the pungent smell of deer. Her eyes watched Thorn, waiting for any sort of signal. Being as impetuous as she, her impulsive chasing of anything that smelled like food was the main reason she didn't catch much. Her father always said, "Dezari, running after things all willy-nilly is not the best way to hunt. Be patient, and chose your target carefully..." Right about then was when she usually got bored and stopped listening. At times when her stomach was growling, she wished she had paid attention. However, Dezari knew by experience that if she could hunt with at least one other veteran hunter, she could take down just about anything. Having endless energy did have its uptakes. Her quickness was known throughout her pack, and she was always brought along on hunting outings. She settled in to wait for Thorn's guidance.

Thorn crouched down, eyes watching the small herd between the stalks of tall grass that hadn't yet been eaten, on the edge of the clearing. His breath shallowed, and the alpha was still.
"Dezari. See that older deer, at the edge of the herd?", he breathed, noting it had something of a limp, as well as it being old. He did not want his pack hunting female deer - that would dwindle the already low population of deer they had in his territory. (There was an abundance of rabbit and vole; smaller prey. Even some goats, though those were hardest to kill.)

Locking her eyes on the decrepit deer, she replied in a low voice, "Yes..." She circled around the clearing never taking her gaze from her prey, making sure she kept downwind. When she reached a position opposite Thorn, with the deer between them, she looked at him and waited for his call. The buck had lowered it's head to crop at a tuft of crabgrass. It's antlers were pointed away from her, which was good. Normally, her pack would attack the flanks of the deer to wound it and slow it down while avoiding the antlers, but it seemed to be on its last leg anyway. Catching Thorn's attention she indicated that she would go for the sides of the deer in order to distract it while he went for its throat. If they did it properly, the buck could be taken down quickly. She moved to start the hunt.

Thorn nodded, for the starting of the hunting signal. As dezari moved forward, so did he. Paws flitting on the cropped grass, he grunted as he saw the tell-tale signs of a rush.
The deers' ears flicked, they tensed, and, as a group - almost a signle body, it seemed - they sprang. The herds' noises were muffled by the grass and bushes they scattered into.
The alpha male smiled, eyes narrowing, as he noticed the older deer that he had picked out was having a hard time following, favoring one leg, and quickly falling behind. Thorn, judging his distance, leapt, teeth flashing in the dappled green light, aiming for the furry flank.

As one with Thorn's movements, Dezari rushed toward the frightened deer and launched herself off the grass in a blur. Landing with a thud on the deer's back, she latched her teeth in its thick skin and bore down. Twisting her back legs around she tried to shift her weight to drag the buck to the ground. Stumbling with the shewolf on his back, the deer let out a scared call. Dezari leaped off his back and hit the ground running. Blood splattered from her teeth and she growled with enjoyment as the deer's eye, rolling with fear, landed on her. Bunching her muscles, she leaped again, this time going for the deer's exposed shoulder. She missed as his darted to the right with a speed brought on from his fright. He ran straight into Thorn's expectant jaws.
((WOOT! This is the first time I've taken on such big game. haha. It's fun. You want the kill Athena?))

~ Eh, sure. Thanks. ~
Thorn snarled and leapt forward, bunching his muscles and paws together, springing towards the bloody and frightened old deer.
As muscle and tendon snapped and tore, scarlett blood marking the Alpha Males' mouth, the large hooved animal fell, dying and breathing it's last breath even as his horns touched the trampled, splattered ground.
Thorn howled, announcing his kill. A deer - old, but a good eat for the two who'd brought it down. Enough, at least, for anything left over to be brought to the dens.
"Nice job.", he congradulated Dezari, grinning from ear to ear.

Thorn had claimed the kill, so Dezari sat back to let him have first choice of the meat. She wondered if anyone would come to investigate the rewards of the hunt. Proud of her role played in the taking of the deer, she howled from sheer excitement. The compliment paid her from Thorn made her even happier. She had missed the feeling she got from being with other wolves. Pack hunting was especially exhilarating.
((OOC: Ah...bad post. Need to move along. lol.))

Thorn was busily filling his jaw with meat - hot, bloody, leg hunks - when he heard pawsteps and crunches of twigs and branhces, leaves shifting and being brushed aside as others moved through the nearby underbrush.
His hackles were immediatly up, a snarl on his throat.
"Who goes there?"

Chao s looked under his paw where the broken twig lay. He must've accidently stepped on it in his quest for fresh meat. He looked behind him to make sure Athena was following behind, and then he got closer to the smell. A huge conifer tree swayed in front of him, blocking half of his view. But he felt that on the other side, there it would be. Of coarse... the wolves who had killed it would be there, too.
He could tell that it was a deer that they had killed; an older buck who had already had his fair share of populating the forests with many little fawns that stayed by their mother's side. Bucks were so strange, in Chaos's opinion. How could they go around and mate with as many females as they wished? That went against what he had learned. When he found his love, he would stay with her until death.
When he finally approached the tree, he got right up behind it. Leaning out to get a better view of what was around it, another twig snapped underneath him, this one more loudly. Darn my ungracefulness... he thought. And then the opposite male, who was chomping on the deer, looked up, scanning the forest for them. His head ducked back behind the tree once again, but then he heard the words...
Who goes there...

Athena hunched down as Thorn called out. Her fur prickled, shying upward as her fear increased. She glanced towards Chaos, who had ducked behind the nearby tree.
Thorn growled, hackles rising even as he staked forward, cautious and wary of attack. He could smell two wolves - female and male. One smelled like dog, and wolf. He called out again. "Who is there? Answer me!", he growled.

Chaos's eyes widened when he realized that hiding was going to be of no use. He slowly slinked out from behind the tree, ears pinned slightly, but not in an agressive sort of way. His eyes did not lay their gaze to the kill, for the other wolf might think that they were out to steal it. The sweet auroma filled his nostrils, but his expression did not chage. When finally his whole body was in view of the young alpha, his tail tucked in and his ears went erect in opposite directions. "My name is Chaos. This is my friend, Athena. We come in peace."
